Ellen M. Ross, J.D.
Founder and Principal Attorney
Ellen M. Ross has always had a passion for helping people solve disputes and protecting those who can’t protect themselves. Ellen originally practiced law in upstate New York for three years. She worked in a variety of areas including domestic relations, discrimination, contract law, criminal, and landlord tenant. Upon opening her own practice in Colorado, Ellen chose to focus primarily on domestic relations. She also provides estate planning services. Ellen works with Boulder County Legal Services and Weld County Legal Services, taking pro bono cases to help those who cannot afford an attorney.
Through her unique brand of compassion, humor and fierce advocacy, Ellen offers you a practical perspective on your situation and firm guidance through some of the hardest times of your life. This approach has resulted in Ellen receiving referrals from some of her client’s former partners. Ellen is responsive and transparent with clients, keeping you well informed regarding the status of your matter. She believes that you need to be the driving force in your family law matter and, as such, she manages your case in accord with your long-term goals and needs. She recognizes the challenges you will face and strives to resolve your matter with your integrity at the forefront.
When you hire Ellen to represent you in a divorce or family law case, you can relax knowing that she is experienced in family law matters and that she encourages you to make the decisions that are going to affect you in the future. She will always consider your insight as she works on your case with tenacity and legal expertise to develop a strategy with the best realistic outcome in mind. Often clients want to make decisions based on emotion that may not be in their best interest financially or emotionally. Ellen provides advice based on the current and long-term consequences, allowing you to make the best decision for yourself.
She understands that long after your court matter is concluded, you may have to continue to interact with your former partner because you have children together or mutual friends, frequent the same places, or for some other reason. With that in mind, she attempts to lessen the amount of animosity between the parties by helping you set boundaries and learn new ways to interact. To help you manage these interactions, the firm has a lending library for its clients on topics dealing with narcissists, passive-aggressive behaviors, domestic violence, parenting, self-help and self-awareness.
Ellen thrives on helping you achieve your desired outcome and is proud when her clients feel protected, receive what they are entitled to, and learn to better co-parent or otherwise interact with their former partner.
Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Ellen received a Bachelor of Business Administration in computer-based information systems in 1989 from Howard University and earned her law degree from Case Western University in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1995.
