Our History

The Law Office of Ellen M. Ross opened in 2008, with a primary focus on Family Law. The mission of the firm is to assist clients in reaching an agreement with their dignity intact and with minimal conflict. If an agreement cannot be reached, we zealously prepare to present your matter in court and fiercely protect your interests. We also prepare estate plans, ensuring that our client’s children will be cared for and that their assets are distributed as they desire.

Founder and Principal Attorney

Ellen M. Ross is a divorce and family law attorney in Longmont, Colorado. She is passionate about helping people solve disputes and protecting those who can’t protect themselves. As a practitioner in divorce and family law, Ellen has both the knowledge and practical experience to navigate complicated relationships. She is so concerned with achieving the best possible outcome for her clients, that even opposing parties (her clients’ former partners) have referred her!

Being an attorney is much like being a therapist: you have to help clients manage big emotions while outlining practical ways to help improve their lives. Ellen takes a systematic approach to family law, so that clients have clear guidance through one of the hardest times of their lives. She always considers which strategy will lead to the best, most realistic outcome – addressing the major concerns of finance, custody, parental rights and more. Ellen empowers her clients to set boundaries and learn new ways to interact; she even has a lending library for topics like dealing with narcissists, passive-aggressive behaviors, domestic violence, parenting, self-help, and self-awareness.

Ellen is licensed to practice law in Colorado and in New York, and has worked in a variety of areas including domestic relations, discrimination, contract law, criminal, and landlord tenant. Her current focus is domestic relations and estate planning. She also works with Boulder County Legal Services and Weld County Legal Services, and provides pro bono work for those who could not otherwise afford and attorney.

Stephen May

Associate Attorney

Stephen May is an associate attorney practicing family law in Longmont, Colorado. Before focusing on family law, Stephen gained valuable experience in housing law and criminal defense, giving him a well-rounded legal background and a deep understanding of the challenges his clients face both inside and outside the courtroom.

Stephen brings a public interest foundation to his practice, having begun his legal career in service of those who needed it most. These experiences shaped his approach to his legal career. Stephen shows genuine care for his clients and a commitment to achieving the best possible outcome for each person he represents.

Stephen believes that the practice of law is fundamentally about people. Whether navigating a difficult divorce, addressing custody and parenting issues, or working through complex financial matters, Stephen takes the time to understand his clients’ concerns and provides clear, practical guidance through what can be some of the most challenging moments of their lives.
